The
Senate Indian Affairs Committee has a business meeting, a listening session and two hearings on its schedule.
This Thursday, the committee holds a business meeting to consider
S.1262,
the Native Culture, Language, and Access for Success in Schools Act, or the
Native CLASS Act. A
hearing was held on June 30.
Immediately following the business meeting, the committee will conduct a hearing on four bills. They are:
S.134,
the Mescalero Apache Tribe Leasing Authorization Act;
S.399,
the Blackfeet Water Rights Settlement Act of 2011;
S.1327,
a bill to amend the Act of March 1, 1933, to transfer certain authority and
resources to the Utah Dineh Corporation; and
S.1345,
the Spokane Tribe of Indians of the Spokane Reservation Grand Coulee Dam
Equitable Compensation Settlement Act.
Later this week, on Saturday, the committee holds a field hearing on Native youth issues in Anchorage, Alaska. The hearing takes place in conjunction with the
Alaska Federation of Natives annual convention.
Finally, on Monday, October 31, the committee is hosting a listening session to discuss
pending legislation, including the Native Violence Against Women Act.
