Woman suspected of involvement with Aquash murder dies

Theda Clarke, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe who was suspected of being involved in the murder of American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou Aquash, died on Saturday.

Clark, who was in her 80s, was never charged in connection with the crime. News reports have speculated that her age and her health status -- she was living in a nursing home in Nebraska -- were reasons for the lack of prosecution.

Clark was the adopted aunt of John Graham, who was convicted in state court for Aquash's death. Another man, Arlo Looking Cloud, also Oglala Sioux, was convicted in federal court.

An Oglala Sioux woman, Thelma Rios, pleaded guilty in state court and died in February.
