The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has three hearings on its schedule in October.

On Thursday, October 6, the committee will hold an oversight hearing about Internet infrastructure in Indian Country. The hearing takes place at 2:15pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.

The following Thursday, October 13, the committee will take consider the effects of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar on jobs, economic development and public safety. The decision has placed doubts on the ability of some tribes to have land placed in trust.

Finally, on Thursday, October, 20, the committee will hold a hearing on five bills. They are: S.134, the Mescalero Apache Tribe Leasing Authorization Act; S.399, the Blackfeet Water Rights Settlement Act of 2011; S.1298, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Land Transfer Act; S.1327, a bill to amend the Act of March 1, 1933, to transfer certain authority and resources to the Utah Dineh Corporation; and S.1345, the Spokane Tribe of Indians of the Spokane Reservation Grand Coulee Dam Equitable Compensation Settlement Act.
