Photos/Video: Barona Band celebrates 41th annual powwow

"Nothing in the world is quite like the beat of drums accompanied by the haunting chants of men harmonizing together in native song. The swirl of color, feathers, and beads of dancing men, women and children dazzle spectators at a Pow-Wow, a celebration of Native American life and tribal history.

Over the Labor Day weekend, the Barona Band of Indians celebrated its 41st annual Pow-Wow. Native American dancers from across the country met to dance, sing, socialize and honor their American Indian culture and history. They showcased their traditional tribal dances and competed for cash and prizes during the three-day event.

The Barona Pow-Wow also featured authentic Native American cuisine, including the favorite Indian Fry Bread Taco, and handcrafted arts and jewelry. The festivities took place on the Barona Indian Reservation in Lakeside."
