BIA holds second consultation on land consolidation in Minnesota

Two top
Bureau of Indian Affairs officials will attend the second tribal consultation for the land consolidation portion of the
Indian trust fund settlement tomorrow.
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Economic Development Jodi Gillette and BIA Director Michael Black are meeting with tribal leaders at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota. They will take input on the $1.9 billion land consolidation fund.
The settlement authorizes the BIA to spent the money to buy fractionated interests from willing sellers. Up to 15 percent, or about $285 million, will be taken as an administrative fee.
Additional sessions will be held Friday, September 16, 2011, in Seattle, Washington; Tuesday, September 27, 2011, in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Thursday, September 29, 2011, in Phoenix, Arizona; and Thursday, October 6, 2011, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
