Les Minthorn was elected chairman of the
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation
in Oregon.
Minthorn defeated four other candidates in a special election that was held on Tuesday. He previously served as chairman from 1974 to 1980 and has served as treasurer for the tribe.
Minthorn replaces Elwood Patawa, who resigned unexpectedly in April.
