The Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians continued to voice opposition to a controversial quarry mine in Riverside County, California.

Representatives of the tribe testified at a third hearing held by the county planning commission. An estimated 500 to 600 people showed up, mainly to oppose the Liberty Quarry.

Tribal attorney Courtney Coyle called the project a "textbook case for how not to do an EIR (environmental impact report)," The North County Times reported.

The mine will be located on 414 acres next to the reservation. The tribe says it will destroy a mountain that plays a key role in the Pechanga creation story.
