Kenneth John Bruning, a member of the
Oglala Sioux Tribe, was extradited from South Dakota to face a murder charge in Maine.
Bruning, 25, pleaded not guilty to intentional or knowing murder. He is accused of setting Trevor Sprague, who was homeless, on fire in Bangor in March 2006.
Authorities aren't saying how they tied Bruning to the crime. The Bangor Daily News speculates that his DNA is on file due to a prior conviction for misdemeanor assault at a homeless shelter a few months after Sprague died.
According to
extradition papers, Bruning is homeless. He is serving time in South Dakota for burglary and possession of methamphetamine.
