BIA concerned after Sauk-Suiattle Tribe fires 11 non-Indians

The Bureau of Indian Affairs met with leaders of the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe of Washington to discuss concerns about the firings of 11 employees.
Superintendent Judy Joseph said the tribe has a right to manage its internal matters. But the agency is worried that claims of racial discrimination could affect federal funding.
"The Tribal Council is sovereign, but if they ask for funding they could have trouble," Joseph told The Everett Herald.
The tribal council fired 11 out of 64 employees.
