Schedule for fairness hearing for Cobell trust fund settlement





Judge Thomas F. Hogan will hold the fairness hearing for the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit today.

Hogan will determine whether the $3.4 billion settlement is fair. The deal provides $1.5 billion in direct payments to Indian beneficiaries and creates a $1.9 billion land consolidation fund to buy fractionated interest from willing beneficiaries.

According to Hogan's organization order, the schedule for the hearing follows:
I. Opening Statements (15 minutes for plaintiffs, 15 minutes for government)

II. Objectors' Statements (Up to 10 minutes each):
