Indian language preservation program receives $90K grant

The organizers of the "Oklahoma Breath of Life β€” Silent no More" program have received a $90,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to continue their efforts.

The program is a joint effort of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Arlington. Last year, they hosted a workshop on languages at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and plan to host another one in May 2012.

Oklahoma is home to about 40 languages. Most of them have few remaining speakers.
