Crow Tribe forced to eliminate 150 employees after flooding

The Crow Tribe of Montana has been forced to lay off 150 employees due to spiraling costs associated with recent flooding on the reservation.

The tribe was already facing a budget shortfall tied to a drop in mineral royalties and other revenue. Then the flooding hit the reservation.

“The only way we can survive is to let people go," personnel director Kayle Howe told The Billings Gazette.

Howe said the tribe hopes to recoup some of the costs of the disaster relief.
