The
San Manuel Band of Mission Indians of California recently purchased the Pan Hot Springs, a site that plays an important role in the tribe's creation story.
The Yuhaviatam, or People of the Pines, lived in the area. Their creator, Kruktat, was treated at the hot springs and was cremated there.
“It brings the culture very much alive,” Chairman James Ramos told The Big Bear Valley News of the tribe's purchase.
Ramos said the tribe hasn't decided what to do with the land, which once was the site of a famed resort.
