South Dakota governor plans meetings with tribal leaders





South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard (R) will start holding one-on-one meetings with tribal leaders.

Daugaard said he has plans to meet with four tribal leaders in June. He said he wants to build stronger relationships with tribes.

Daugaard recently appointed Leroy "J.R." LaPlante, a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, as the first Secretary of Tribal Relations, a cabinet-level position.
