Lumbee Tribe to hold special election for a new chairman

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will hold a special election to replace Chairman Purnell Swett, who resigned unexpectedly.

Swett is the first chairman in tribal history to leave office before the end of his term, The Fayetteville Observer. He had a little over a year and a half left in his three-year term.

Vice chair Sharon Hunt will serve as interim chair until the special election.
