Sacred Medicine Stone taken from Blackfoot site in Alberta

The sacred Medicine Stone has been stolen from the Fort Whoop-Up National Historic Site in Alberta.

The stone weighs more than 2,800 pounds. It was last seen on Wednesday.

"They have no idea what they've done," Doran Degenstein, the executive director of the site, told The Lethbridge Herald. "It's certainly sacrilegious not unlike desecrating a house of worship. It's a pretty serious slight and I certainly hope it wasn't intentional."

The rock went missing before until it was recovered in the 1970s. Photos of the site have been posted on Facebook.
