The United Tribes Technical College in North Dakota remains in limbo as Republicans and Democrats continue to debate the federal government's budget.
The House passed a budget bill that leaves out UTTC. The Senate considered an alternative that included nearly $3.8 million for the college but it failed yesterday.
“I am disappointed with the result of today’s vote, but the fight is far from over,” Senator Sen. Kent Conrad (D-North Dakota) said in a press release. “Cuts are necessary, but they must be targeted. They simply cannot be made in a way that takes away from our ability to invest in job creation and promote future economic growth.
About 46 percent of UTTC's budget comes from the federal government.
