The House passed a fix to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar on Wednesday as part of a continuing resolution to fund the federal government.

The fix ensures that "any federally recognized Indian tribe" can follow the land-into-trust process. The Supreme Court ruling restricts the process to tribes that were recognized as of 1934.

The 2011 continuing resolution passed by a vote of 212-206. No Republicans voted for the measure.

The resolution would need to pass the Senate in order for the fix to become law. But Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), the chair of the Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee, plans to offer an amendment that would make it extremely difficult for tribes to engage in gaming on newly acquired trust lands.

The fix is in Section 2727 of the continuing resolution.
