Members of the Ute Tribe of Utah almost recalled Chairman Curtis Cesspooch from office.
The vote was 88 to recall Cesspooch versus 30 to keep him. But the total number of votes -- 118 -- fell four short of the 122 that were needed to validate the election.
“The only reason for the recall again is ‘gross misconduct’ and for not listening to the people,” Cesspooch told The Vernal Express. “It’s surprising that 88 of them still want me out. These must be the people who totally believe what they are being told.”
Despite the outcome, Cesspooch remains on a 30-day suspension. He has about a week left on the suspension.
Tribal members started a petition to remove Cesspooch because they were upset about a project near a sacred site.
