The Ute Tribe of Utah suspended chairman Curtis Cesspooch for 30 days amid a dispute over a recall petition.
Tribal members started a petition to remove Cesspooch because they were upset about a project near a sacred site. The tribe's election committee said the petition was invalid and the dispute is now in tribal court.
Cesspooch dismissed the effort as politically motivated. He said his main critic, tribal council member Irene Cuch, is upset about his attempt to have her sanctioned for a public intoxication arrest at the Salt Lake City airport.
