"California benefits from tribal government enterprise, especially through job creation and regional investment.
The Blue Lake Rancheria – a federally recognized tribal government – owns and operates Mainstay Business Solutions, a staffing company formed to diminish our reliance on gaming and federal funding.
Established seven years ago, Mainstay has 15 branch offices in California. Mainstay provides more than 20,000 Californians with jobs, accurate pay and all required benefits. All our employees receive lawful wages and workers' compensation, unemployment and Social Security benefits like all other California workers.
Recent press ("Tribe's gambit hurts workers"; Editorial, July 17) has suggested that due to its tribal-government-owned status, Mainstay is avoiding the payment of taxes and benefits to its employees.
As a government-owned firm, Mainstay pays all taxes and benefits just like other governmental employers."
