A decision that could halt a recall election against the two top leaders of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians of Michigan is expected by noon on Friday.

Chairman Ken Harrington and vice chairman Dexter McNamara asked two separate tribal court judges for a preliminary injunction that would stop the May 28 election. They hope to go to trial at a later date to invalidate the recall petitions.

Harrington says the petition against him failed to state a reason for his removal and contained irregularities. McNamara believes that the petition against him doesn't have enough signatures.

Harrington and McNamara are newcomers to the tribal council and have been in office for a little over six months.
