The two top leaders of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians of Michigan are the target of recall petition.
Chairman Ken Harrington and vice chairman Dexter McNamara are newcomers to the tribal council and have been in office for just six months. But in that short time, critics say Harrington has overstepped his authority.
“We’ve never had a situation like this where the chairman has come in and willed power over everyone,” Bea Law told The Petoskey News-Review.
Law and other tribal members are waiting on the election committee to certify the petition. Once certified, the recall election would take place within 90 days.
