The Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation is moving closer to reclaiming the Ipperwash Provincial Park in Ontario.
The park was the site of a high profile dispute between Native activists and Ontario Park Police in 1995. Dudley George was killed by an officer, a death that was blamed on the government in the Ipperwash Inquiry.
The Ontario government is introducing a motion today to relinquish the land. But it will take a few more years for the land to be in the First Nation's hands, the Canadian Press reported.
