Mike Harris, the former premier of Ontario, concluded his testimony at the inquiry into the death of Ojibwe protester Dudley George.
Harris said he doesn't regret the actions he took prior to the killing of George by an Ontario Park Police officer. He again denied directing the police to engage in violence to end the protest at Ipperwash Provincial Park.
A large number of Native people attended the inquiry's hearings to listen to Harris. While he was making his final testimony, a group built a fire and held a ceremony in hopes of getting answers from Harris. As he left the hearing room on Monday, he was accused of lying about his involvement in the Ipperwash scandal of September 1995.
George and other Natives from the Stoney Point First Nation were occupying the park to protest inaction on a land claim settlement.
