President Barack Obama reiterated his support for a fix to the U.S. Supreme
Court decision in Carcieri
v. Salazar at the White House Tribal Nations Conference on Thursday.
"I also want to note that I support legislation to make clear -- in the wake of a recent Supreme Court decision -- that the Secretary of Interior can take land into trust for all federally recognized tribes," Obama said in his remarks to tribal leaders.
Despite the president's support, the fix remains in limbo on Capitol Hill. The House passed the fix as part of the 2011
continuing resolution.
The Senate didn't put the fix into the FY 2011 Omnibus Appropriations
Act. But Democrats said yesterday they won't pursue the bill amid opposition from Republicans.
The Senate instead will consider a continuing resolution
