Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri) is once again taking on Alaska Native corporations that have seen success in the federal contracting industry.

McCaskill claims the corporations aren't passing on benefits to their shareholders. She is proposing to eliminate "loopholes" that have helped them win billions of dollars in government contracts.

"We've seen that a very small portion of these companies' profits are reaching native Alaskans, so it's time to acknowledge the fact that this program is not effective for either native Alaskans or taxpayers," McCaskill said in a statement, The Washington Post reported.

McCaskill has proposed several reforms to the 8(a) minority contracting program -- usually without consulting tribes, Alaska Natives or Native Hawaiians
