Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico) will discuss the Tribal Law and Order Act at San Juan College in Farmington, New Mexico, this morning.

Bingaman co-sponsored the new law. It encourages more prosecution of crime in Indian Country, increases penalties for offenders, reauthorizes key justice programs and establishes consistent protocols to address sexual violence.

President Barack Obama signed the bill into law at a White House ceremony on July 29.
