Work on an expansion of a ski resort at the sacred San Francisco Peaks in Arizona has been delayed.
The Coconino National
Forest hasn't given approval for construction to begin. That will put off work for about a month, The Arizona Daily Sun reported.
The owners of the Arizona Snowbowl also agreed to delay preliminary logging, grading and trench-digging until at least July 21 amid a lawsuit over the project. The Save the Peaks Coalition
and local residents have asked a federal judge to bar work pending the resolution of their lawsuit.
A hearing is scheduled on July 20. The plaintiffs say the Department of Agriculture failed to consider the health and safety aspects of using reclaimed sewage to make snow for the resort.
