The Lac du Flambeau
Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin finally has a new tribal council president.
Jerome “Brooks” Big John, 48, was named president on Monday night. He replaces Carl Edwards, who abruptly resigned in November.
Big John said his main goal is uniting the tribe and the council. “There has been a lot of distrust and we need to create unity within our reservation and our community, starting at our council level," he told News Of The North. "We can agree to disagree.”
He also said he will be looking into the tribe's financial issues, which include a default on a $50 million bond.
