The Senate Indian Affairs
Committee on Thursday voted to send S.375,
the Crow Tribe Water Rights Settlement Act, to the Senate floor.
The bill settles the water rights of the Crow Tribe of Montana. It provides $527 million for water projects on and off the reservation.
Sen. Jon Tester (D-Montana) worked with Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyoming), the vice chair of the Indian Affairs Committee, to address concerns about the effect of the settlement on water users in Wyoming.
Crow Chairman Cedric Black Eagle and nearly a dozen tribal leaders attended yesterday's Indian Affairs Committee meeting to show their support for the bill.
