The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe will proceed with a general election on September 30 after a judge refused to call a special runoff between two of the candidates.
Avis Little Eagle, who currently serves as vice chair of the tribe, says three people weren't allowed to vote for her. She also disputed the eligibility of five voters.
The challenges could have resulted in Little Eagle appearing on the general election ballot. Only one vote separated her from Ron His Horse Is Thunder, the incumbent chairman.
Charles Murphy, a former chairman, won the most votes in the primary.
The tribe's reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
