American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier could see a decision on his request for parole as early as today.

Peltier is serving two consecutive life terms for the for June 1975 murders of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. His case went before the U.S. Parole Commission on July 28.

"We're optimistic that justice will finally be served," Jeff Armstrong, a spokesman for the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, told Canwest News Service. "But we're scared that Leonard will continue to be held for something he didn't do."

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians said it will welcome Peltier back to the North Dakota reservation if he is released.
