A leader of Pojoaque Pueblo in New Mexico reportedly confessed to "something very bad" in connection with a fatal hit and run on the reservation.

According to a police report quoted by local newspapers, Lt. Gov Linda Diaz called tribal police on April 5. A visit to her home turned up evidence consistent with the accident that left Phillip Espinoza, 31, dead.

Espinoza was apparently struck and killed on April 4. His body was found by a man walking his dog along a major highway that runs trough the reservation.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is investigating. Diaz has retained Sam Winder, a former federal prosecutor.
