A federal grand jury has issued subpoenas to former Interior secretary Gale Norton and Royal Dutch Shell PLC, according to news reports.
Norton is being investigated for allegedly talking to Royal Dutch about a job at the same time the Interior Department was considering oil shale leases for the company.
The leases were approved in early 2006 and Norton joined the company later that year after she left the Bush administration.
Royal Dutch said it was cooperating with the investigation. Norton has not commented to the media about the allegations.
