Dellis Agard, the election manager for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, said she was fired after 25 years on the job.

Agard, 58, wouldn't disclose the reason for her termination. But she told The Bismarck Tribune it was related to the dispute over a recent primary in which only one vote separated two candidates for chairman.

Avis Little Eagle, who serves as vice chair, went to tribal court to challenge the results of the primary. She lost her case, meaning incumbent Chairman Ron His Horse Is Thunder advanced to the primary against former chairman Charles Murphy, who won the most votes in the primary.

Agard said she will appeal her firing. The tribe's general election takes place September 30.

The tribe's reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border.
