The Bureau of Indian Affairs plans to look into an election in which some members of the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians of California weren't allowed to vote.
About 50 people were blocked from an election on Sunday. "They treated us like criminals," Angela Martinez-McNeal told The North County Times.
Martinez-McNeal is part of a larger group whose membership has been in dispute.
The tribe says they don't quality for membership but the BIA, which has authority over San Pasqual enrollment matters, has sided with the group.
Superintendent Jim Fletcher said he will look into the election.
