The Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming filed suit in federal court in hopes of settling a long-running Indian Country issue.

The tribe contends Riverton and other parts of Fremont County are part of the Wind River Reservation. The state claims the issue has been resolved and that the land is no longer Indian Country.

In a high-profile murder case involving a tribal member, the Wyoming Supreme Court in January ruled that Riverton is not part of the reservation. But the 10th Circuit Court of Appealsin March gave the defendant another chance at making his argument.

The tribe's lawsuit was filed over sales taxes and vehicle registration fees.
