The Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota went to court on Thursday to try to block the construction of a hog farm in Charles Mix County.
The tribe has been protesting the Longview Farms operation all week. Tribal members are worried about the impact of the hog farm on the environment.
A tribal court judge ordered the farm to leave the reservation. But the farm said the site is not under tribal jurisdiction.
The hog farm is adjacent to tribal-owned land. And the only means of access is a Bureau of
Indian Affairs road.
State and BIA police have been called to the site but tribal members say they are acting peacefully.
