The San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois) for president.
A resolution passed by the council cites Obama's support for self-determination, consultation and improving life in Indian Country. "Senator Obama understands the needs of Native Americans and has stated his vision in helping our interests and in improving health care, education, housing, infrastructure, renewable energy, veterans' benefits and rights, and law enforcement in Indian Country," the resolution states.
Obama and Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the former chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, have been invited to the National Congress of American Indians annual convention in Phoenix later this month.
