The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians of North Dakota will use a $207,000 Department of Justice grant to open a sex offender registration office.

Tribes and states have to keep track of sex offenders under the Adam Walsh Act. Tribes that don't develop their own systems will cede authority to the state.

Nearly 200 tribes have passed resolutions to develop their own tracking systems.
