The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will be holding another election for the chairman's position.
The tribe held an election on May 21. Candidate Derek Bailey filed a complaint when the election board made unsubstantiated allegations against him less than 24 hours before the vote.
The allegations came in an email that was sent to all gaming and government employees of the tribe. Bailey said he wasn't able to respond so close to the election and ended up losing to incumbent chairman Robert Kewaygoshkum.
A panel of tribal court judges ruled that the election board violated tribal regulations in handling the case. The court ordered a new vote between Bailey and Kewaygoshkum.
