An ongoing election dispute within the e Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan has resulted in the removal of two top candidates from the ballot.

Brian S. Napont and Thurlow �Sam� McClellan were accused of violating tribal election rules. The election board agreed to remove them from the ballot, following a complaint made by incumbent vice chairman George Bennett.

Bennett, is running for re-election. He placed third in the primary behind Napont, who was the front runner. McClellan placed fifth. Only the top six candidates make it to the general election.

The primary was the second held this year because the first one was nullified after a challenge was raised. The general election has been postponed twice and a new date has not been scheduled.
