Navajo Nation to sue EPA over power plant permit

The Navajo Nation plans to sue the Environmental Protection Agency over a permit for a proposed power plant.

Deputy Attorney General Harrison Tsosie told the Associated Press the tribe has waited too long for action on the air permit. The tribe submitted an application in May 2004.

"It has been the practice that they take longer than a year, which is to be expected, but in the case of this particular application ... it has been almost four years," Tsosie told the AP.

The tribe and Sithe Global Power plan to build a $3 billion coal-fired power plant in northwestern New Mexico. Some tribal members oppose the project, saying it will harm the environment.
