The Navajo Nation
Council voted 60-20 on Monday to keep attorney general Louis Denetsosie on the job.
Council delegates sought to remove Denetsosie over a government reform proposal advocated by President Joe Shirley Jr.. Shirley wants to reduce the size of the council from 88 delegates to 24.
Denetsosie wrote a legal opinion that supported the proposal. Delegates, who earn a base salary of $25,000 but can receive more than $50,000 for attending meetings and sponsoring legislation, don't support the idea of reducing the council.
Since Denetsosie came on board in 2003, delegates have tried to remove him twice.
