Ex-Oglala Sioux official pleads guilty to drug charge

Don Garnier, a former council member for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, has pleaded guilty to a drug charge in New Mexico.

Garnier, 38, admitted to possession with intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana. He was a passenger in a vehicle that had more than 21 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

Garnier was suspended following his indictment. The tribe later tried to force all council members to take drug tests.
