Drug trial for Ex-Oglala council member on hold

The federal trial of a former council member for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has been put on hold, The Rapid City Journal reports.

Don Garnier, 38, is charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Authorities in New Mexico found 21 pounds of marijuana in a car he was riding.

The driver of the car, Anthony Vocu, has pleaded guilty for failing to report a felony. Garnier is reportedly negotiating a potential plea.

Garnier was suspended from the council after he was arrested. He subsequently resigned.
