The federal trial of a former council member for the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has been put on hold, The Rapid City Journal reports.
Don Garnier, 38, is charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Authorities in New Mexico found 21 pounds of marijuana in a car he was riding.
The driver of the car, Anthony Vocu, has pleaded guilty for failing to report a felony. Garnier is reportedly negotiating a potential plea.
Garnier was suspended from the council after he was arrested. He subsequently resigned.
