The University of North Dakota and the NCAA are headed to trial over the use of the school's "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo.
But both sides have been talking about a potential settlement. It would involve UND receiving the support of a Sioux tribe or the NCAA giving the school an exemption from the Indian mascot policy.
Currently, none of the Sioux tribes outright support the nickname. Most say it is offensive.
UND doesn't have to get rid of the "Fighting Sioux" name but won't be allowed to use Indian imagery during postseason games and won't be allowed to host playoffs under NCAA's policy.
