Tribes face another deadline under Adam Walsh Act

Tribes face another deadline to comply with the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.

The first deadline was July 27, 2007. Tribes had to submit a resolution to join a national sex offender registration and notice system or cede authority to the state.

The next deadline is July 27, 2009. Tribes have two years to develop their own system to track sex offenders on their reservations.

The Department of Justice is still trying to figure out how the system will work. A consultation was held earlier this week in Phoenix, Arizona.
