Man who kidnapped Native boy to appear in court

A Canadian man who is accused of kidnapping and sexual assaulting a Native boy and another boy is due to appear in court in Regina, Saskatchewan.

Peter Whitmore, 36, is a known sex offender. But as part of a proposed plea agreement, the Canadian government would not designate him as a dangerous offender.

That means he will be spared a mandatory lifetime prison sentence. Though he will receive a life sentence, he will be eligible for parole in seven years.

The Native boy was kidnapped in Manitoba. Whitmore is also accused of kidnapping a 10-year-old boy from Saskatchewan.
